Austrian
National Fund
(Deadline for submitting an
Apartment Leases application was June 30, 2004; deadline for submitting an
application to the General Settlement Fund was May 28, 2003; deadline for
submitting an application for In Rem restitution was December 31,
2004)
Established by the Austrian parliament in 1995 to make amends to persons
persecuted by the Nazis in Austria. Oversees all compensation programs
sponsored by the state of Austria, including the General Settlement Fund, a
large-scale compensation process under which claims for a wide variety of
assets are considered (e.g. bank accounts, liquidated businesses, real and
movable property, etc.).
Austrian
Reconciliation Fund
(Deadline for submitting an
application was December 31, 2003)
Established by the Austrian parliament in 2000, in bilateral agreement
with several Central and Eastern European countries and the United States,
the Austrian Reconciliation Fund is intended to make voluntary payments to
former slave and forced laborers of the Nazi regime whose work took place
on the territory now encompassed by the Federal Republic of Austria.
Belgian
Jewish Community Indemnification Commission
(Deadline for submitting an
application was March 19, 2003)
Claims process for assets originally belonging to the Belgian Jewish
community, which were plundered, surrendered, or abandoned during the
Second World War.
Claims Resolution
Tribunal - CRT II
Claims processing organization appointed by the US District Court for the
Eastern District of New York to adjudicate claims under the Holocaust
Victim Assets class action litigation. In addition to claims for assets
deposited in Swiss banks, the CRT also accepts claims for insurance
policies issued by certain Swiss insurance companies. For background on
the class action suit see Holocaust
Victim Assets Litigation. This site provides information about the
$1.25 billion (U.S.) settlement of a class action lawsuit against private
Swiss Banks and other Swiss entities for their alleged conduct related to
the Second World War and the Holocaust.

Claims Against Germany
Created to secure funds for the relief, rehabilitation and resettlement of Jewish
survivors of the Holocaust and to rebuild Jewish communities and institutions devastated
by the Third Reich. This site provides an extensive Guide to Compensation and Restitution for Holocaust
Survivors, organized by asset type.
Enemy Property

Agency of the British Department of Trade and Industry created to assist persons
designated "belligerent enemy aliens" during the Second World War, whose assets
were confiscated by the United Kingdom under the Trading with the Enemy Act, and remain
unclaimed since that time. ("Belligerent enemy aliens" were residents of those
countries that declared war on the United Kingdom.)
French
Commission for the Compensation of Victims of Spoliation
(Deadline for submitting an
application for bank related spoliation was July 18, 2002; claims can
still be filed for spoliation of property)
Created by French parliamentary decree in 1999 in order to make
reparations for spoliation of material or financial property which
resulted from anti-Semitic legislation enforced during the Occupation by
either German authorities or the Vichy Government.
German
Forced Labour Compensation Programme
(Deadline
for submitting an application was December 31, 2001)
On 12 August 2000, a German law, German
Foundation Act (GFA), came into force, creating a German
Foundation entitled "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future", to
provide financial compensation to former slave and forced laborers and
certain other victims of National Socialist (Nazi) injustice. The
International Organization for Migration (IOM) has been designated under
the German Foundation Actto be the sole partner organization responsible
for processing claims for Property Loss suffered under the Nazi regime as
a result of direct participation of German enterprises.
International Commission on
Holocaust Era Insurance Claims
(Deadline
for submitting an application was December 31, 2003)
Established in October of 1998 by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in
cooperation with several European insurance companies, European regulators,
representatives of several Jewish organizations, and the State of Israel. The Commission
is charged with establishing a just process that will expeditiously address the issue of
unpaid insurance policies issued to victims of the Holocaust.
Netherlands
Foundation for Individual Insurance Claims
(Deadline
for submitting an application is December 31, 2009)
Claims process for insurance policies lost or unpaid due to Nazi
persecution. Insurance policies must have been written by a member company
of the Dutch Association of Insurers in order to be eligible for
compensation under this claims process.
Restore UK
Agency of the British Bankers' Association created to assist persons designated
"technical enemy aliens" during the Second World War, whose assets were frozen
by the United Kingdom, and remain unclaimed since that time. ("Technical enemy
aliens" were residents of countries that were invaded or occupied by Nazi Germany or
its allies.)
Trace Looted Art
Maintains a comprehensive database of Holocaust era looted art which is constantly checked against objects for sale by dealers and auction houses.

Historical
Commission of the Republic of Austria
The Historical Commission was established
jointly by the Austrian Federal Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, the
Speaker of the National Assembly and the Speaker of the Federal Council.
The Commission's mandate is to investigate and report on the whole complex
of expropriations in Austria during the Nazi era and on restitution and/or
compensation (including other financial or social benefits) after 1945 by
the Republic of Austria
Independent Commission of Experts:
Switzerland - Second World War
Established by the Swiss parliament in December 1996 to investigate the volume and fate of
assets moved to Switzerland before, during, and immediately after the Second World War.
Presidential Advisory Commission on
Holocaust Assets in the United States
Conducted original research into the fate of assets taken from victims of the Holocaust
that came into the possession of the U.S. Federal government, reviewed research done by
others regarding assets that came to private collections and non-Federal government
organizations (especially state governments and financial institutions), and
advised the
President on policies that should be adopted to make restitution to the rightful owners of
stolen property or their heirs.

American
Association of Museums Nazi-Era Provenance Internet Portal (NEPIP)
NEPIP provides a searchable registry of objects in US museum collections
that were created before 1946 and changed hands in Continental Europe
during the Nazi era (1933-1945). Its goal is to centralize provenance
information held by US museums.
JewishGen
Numerous Jewish genealogy resources, including extensive databases of
surnames, ancestral towns, and birth and death records that can be useful
in finding information often requested by claims organizations.

Information regarding access to primary and secondary resources, and
current research. Searchable online resources include an extensive finding
aid to Holocaust-era asset records at the National Archives.

Cross Holocaust and World War II Tracing Program
The American Red Cross Holocaust and War Victims Tracing
Center is part of a national program for persons seeking information
regarding the fates of loved ones missing since the end of WWII and the
Holocaust and its aftermath. The American Red Cross has been providing
tracing services for victims of WWII and the Nazi regime since 1939.

Yad Vashem
The Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Authority in Israel, Yad Vashem
